LI-CAN’s primary source of support is dues from its own member institutions. Members pay annual dues totaling 1% of their organization’s operating budget (minimum $1,000, maximum $10,000). LI-CAN is also supported financially by national and local foundations, individuals and other grantors who recognize the importance of LI-CAN’s work and the value it brings to its members and to the broader Long Island region.
LI-CAN is registered in New York State as a not-for-profit corporation and has been designated by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 organization for income tax purposes. LI-CAN is strictly non-partisan, supports no party or candidate, and accepts no financial support from any level of government for its operations.
